When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence asked how they convinced Harrison Ford to come on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and that he would listen to people like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they should at least pitch him to Ford first, thinking he would immediately decline, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford was involved in the project, sparking interest from other big-name actors.

Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince her, but he was elated nonetheless. I have watched the first two episodes and I find them engaging.

I also respect the way it’s presented: it doesn’t do anything that other therapists should do, and that’s pretty clear

Part of the reason is that I found there was something real about a therapist who needs therapy and wants to break through to his patients to unexpectedly overcome their problems. It hasn’t gotten into the stupid situations that other shows like Loot have, but it’s still early in the series and I’ll continue to watch it.

The show is not for everyone

That said, I like the depth of characters that don’t feel like caricatures; These are the people I want to get to know.
