Plot
It follows Catherine Ravenscroft, a television documentary journalist whose work is based on exposing the wrongdoings of long-respected institutions. There were original rumors that Gary Oldman would be replaced by Kevin Kline.
How the hell did Alfonso Cuaron make such a terrible show?
In the first scene, the two young men on the train are annoying from the start, and the mediocre acting just keeps going from there. Even Kevin Kline, who in my opinion usually does nothing wrong, seems to be giving it a hard time.
The narration is unnatural and has a strange, inconsistent sound quality
It’s like the actors have no idea how to play their characters. I assume the narration is taken directly from the book, but it doesn’t always make sense in the context of the TV show.
Kodi Smit-McPhee writhes like a wet rag
For example, sometimes the narration is from Cate Blanchett’s character talking about her own experiences, which is just weird. Sacha Baron Cohen seems out of place and sometimes gets weirdly hysterical.
It’s all a bit bizarre
